Backpack trip to Porcupine Lake

Selected By: Barbara J

No location was chosen

Porcupine Lake is 5.6 miles north on the PCT from Gumboot Saddle parking area.
Hike is rated "moderate".
We will meet at the Gumboot saddle parking at 10:00 am , Saturday.
We will also meet in Mt Shasta at 9:00 am, at Burger King for those who want to follow us up to the trail head.
We may stay until Monday if the weather is good.

Directions to the Trailhead: From I-5, take the Central Mount Shasta Exit. Head west and south, first on South Old Stage Road and then on W. A. Barr Road. Bend around Lake Siskiyou to meet Road 26. Follow 26 west (it’s paved the whole way) along the South Fork Sacramento River, then park at Gumboot Saddle, which is 18.3 miles from Mount Shasta City and 2.5 miles west of the turnoff to Gumboot Lake and Gumboot Campground.

Dogs owners are strongly urged to keep dogs on the leash and to clean up after them on the trail and around the proximity of the camp.

I will be going back on Sunday.
Weather will likely be cool, with the possibility of showers in the forecast. The high temp at the lake on Sat. will be around 57 with a low of 34. Looks like it will be below freezing on Sun. night. Looks like a great trip to me. Cool beats heat any day, especially for hiking.
