September is often a great time to observe wild Reptiles and Amphibians, the hottest part of summer is on its way out but the cold of winter has not yet come. Babies are often present.
We will meet at the Sulfur Creek Rd just off of North Market by Lost Ln (Lat: 40.602571, Lon: -122.382184)
We will hike along the Sulfur Creek Drainage, and in the creek itself for a little ways if it is still dry (creek is seasonal). Expect 2 to 4 miles of hiking.
I will give a short natural history tour of Reptiles and Amphibians of Redding Area. Will discuss species we encounter and species we do not. Fence Lizards and Treefrogs are a sure things, Garter snakes, Kingsnakes, Gopher Snakes, Sharp-tailed Snakes are non venomous snake possibilities. Alligator Lizards and Western Skinks are additional lizard possibilities.
Some animals may be briefly handled for demonstrative purposes but any that are will be promptly released.
Rattlesnakes are also possible, if encountered they will be respected by but not handled.
If it looks like rain, can you post a heads up for me? Or does this event go on rain or shine???
BTW if anyone is google mapping this location, google spells it Sulphur Creek Road.
Any pictures? It'd be great to share. Upload and if any problems let me know.
I haven't downloaded my camera yet. I will post when do.
Michael, I made you an event organizer so you can get this great idea posted to the calendar. Let me know if you need assistance.
