This will be a two-night trip to the wilderness at Lassen Volcanic NP.
We will start our adventure at 11am at the Butte Lake trailhead on July 9th. We will then hike 5 miles to Widow Lake or further to Jake Lake and set up for the night. This should give us plenty of time to swim, relax and eat dinner before dark.
Day two we will hike to Snag Lake, and maybe Twin Lakes if we are all ambitious, to camp. It is about 10 miles to Snag Lake from Widow Lake, but we'll take it slow and easy.
Last day we'll hike out via Twin Lakes/Rainbow Lake and maybe even take a detour up Cinder Cone. Total distance will be around 20 miles for the three days.
I will be coming from Burney, and people may come to my house and carpool from there or meet at the TH. I have room for two more in my truck, so let me know so I can plan and give directions to my house if necessary.
The Butte Lake trailhead is accessed from Highway 44. From Redding take HWY 44/89 east to Old Station. At the junction/split of HWYs 44 and 89, take HWY 44 towards Susanville, or right (east) on Feather Lake Highway. Drive approximately 10 miles to Butte Lake Road or FS road 32N21, and take a right (south). There should be signs for Butte Lake pointing you in the right direction. Drive down this main cindered road for ~7 miles and the entrance station and parking lot/trailhead should be straight ahead. A adventure pass is required or you can pay $10 per day to park.
I will be there around 11am. I have a stove and filter I will be bringing, but please take note of the things you will need for the hike that Kip sent out. YOU WILL NEED BUG SPRAY!!! I would also prefer food/nice smelling things be carried in a bear-proof canister, but I don't believe it is required by the park.
