Hat Creek Falls

This location is shown only to members

This is an out-of -the-way adventure, on a busy weekend. Hat Creek falls is a hidden gem that I have been to once, and I have been told the water is really flowing high right now.

If you would like to join me, meet me at the intersection of HWY 89/44 and Forest Road 32N12 (the west prospect turnoff or twin bridges road) at 10 am on July 3rd. This is about halfway between Eskimo Hill and Old Station. If you are heading east and get to the scenic overlook, you've gone too far.

We will drive 1.3 miles down 32N12, then turn right on 32N42Y for approx. 2 miles, where we will park and continue to hike the rest of the way on the PCT. It is a 1.5 mile hike up the PCT into Lassen Park and then down to the creek, so if you would like to bring your dog, you must stay on the outside boundary. ;)

This area has some nice spots for a picnic and I would estimate we would arrive right around luch time so let's bring some food and have a light luch before heading back down.

This area can be driven to (4WD) and there may be campers in the area, but there is plenty of room to share and enjoy!

I drove the road out to where we would get on the PCT and it has some waterbars and is rocky in places. You wouldn't need 4wd to drive it, but I would recommend a higher clearance vehicle just to be safe.
Dogs are okay in the National Forest. However, as per National Park rules (we will be in Lassen Volcanic for about .3 mile) dogs are not allowed. So it's up to you if you want to take that chance.....

    Great hike.

Five hikers, great weather, short hike, very doable, and very rewarding at the end. The falls, through a chute, were really neat. Lots of rock mortars along the river.
