FULL MOON PADDLE ON WHISKEYTOWN

Oak Bottom Marina (map)

Selected By: Bob Shive

Paddling on Whiskeytown Lake on a full moon is a magical experience as we watch the surface of the lake shimmering in the moonlight. We will watch the sunset and the moonrise from our kayaks or canoes. Many people will be bringing wine and snacks to enjoy while on the water. Please bring and wear a PFD, light, water or beverage and snacks. A Whiskeytown pass is required.

Meet at the Oak Bottom Boatramp at 7:00 and be prepared to be on the water by 7:30. This will be an easy paddle, distance and destination to be determined by the group.

I'd really like to participate in this one, but can only do so if someone has a tandeum kayak and an extra PFD.

We had quite the turnout with approx. 40 boats. We paddled from Oak Bottom across to Boulder Creek inlet and explored the inlet. Then we paddled towards Brandy Creek stopping on an island. Some paddlers stayed on the island and enjoyed pie in the moonlight and the rest of us paddled out onto the lake. We then rafted up and enjoyed wine and snacks as the moonlight shimmered on the water. Later some of us paddled back to Oak Bottom and some of us paddled over and followed the old highway in our kayaks before heading back. Everyone had a good time and I consider the event to be very successful.

This was my first Meetup. My sister came from Davis to paddle with me and she brought her kayaks. We enjoyed ourselves completely! What a nice group!

About a three star as I got there a few minutes late and didn't feel like I knew anybody. I think if I got there on time I would have had a better time. The coolest part for me was towards the end. On the way back, the setting sun and the rising moon seemed to come together right at my kayak. Almost as if the water was alive under me. Tres Cool. Bill

Well, I actually missed this meetup, because I was at Brandy Creek instead of Oak Bottom. We "rafted" up with the kayak tours and had a great time too. Catch you next month!

I have never seen so many kayaks together on a trip. Lots of happy kayakers. It was a beautiful night. I had a great time.
