Mount Shasta
If you've ever thought about doing a non-technical climb of Mt. Shasta, but were put off by the crowds on the Avalanche Gulch route...here's your chance for a more wilderness-like climb.
We'll be climbing on the east face of the mountain, via the Wintun Ridge route. For the descent, we'll probably use the nearby Clear Creek route, because it's more open and easier to glissade.
This route is roughly the same level of difficulty (and danger) as the Avalanche Gulch route, but it gets much less traffic. because trailhead access is more difficult.
Plan on one or two nights on the mountain. Details to follow.
It should be feasible to do this with one night on the mountain. Starting early on Saturday, we'll climb mostly on snow up the ridge to about 10,000 feet. On Sunday morning, we'll start early for the summit. We should be able to get back to Mt. Shasta city by late afternoon on Sunday (after a long hike out). A more leisurely schedule would include Sunday night on the mountain.
