THIS HAS BEEN UPDATED!!!! SEE ADDS IN COLOR BELOW!!!!!
It's the Holiday Season and NCOA can sing its success with more than 500 members!
In the true spirit of meetup (click on meetup to get an idea of the impact!!), we're scheduling a short-lived, spontaneous Holiday Season singalong at the Mt. Shasta Mall.
I'm looking for a BIG event with at least 100 of us gathering for a maximum of 15 minutes inside the Food Court near the entry. I want to make a big holiday splash that will be totally unexpected but a wonderful surprise for shoppers and the fast-food woofers who like us probably forget all of the real things that enrich our lives.
This has NOT been cleared by mall officials. But, I think we can form up quickly at precisely 6:45 p.m., sing a couple of neutral Holiday songs and disband before anyone can react beyond -- hopefully -- joining in to sing with us.
We'll gather beginning 6:30 and you'll get copies of the lyrics (Jingle Bells will be one of two songs) and then the entertainment begins at 6:45, ending at 6:57. We've got a great start toward the goal of having 100 members/guests RSVP. There are several of us who RSVP'd for ourselves only. I want to issue a challenge to each of you (and me) to talk to a friend, family member, co-worker into coming with you, then update your RSVP. Kids are absolutely perfect for this!!!!
Here's a suggestion: We can each bring $1 per person to the singalong and we'll donate our proceeds to the closest Salvation Army Red Kettle -- sort of tribute for use of the Food Court. We could also get inventive and pass a bucket in the Food Court but then I really think the Mall Cops would pepper spray us or let the dogs loose.
Make this a break on your Tuesday evening shopping, errand-running or dining out trip. Or go hang out the Roundtable Pizza, the Food Court or Rusty Nail after.
Why this will be a good thing:
1. Your spirit will rise.
2. The spirits of merry gentlewomen and gentlemen will also rise.
3. This can be a wonderful stunt to promote the essence of meetups and NCOA in particular.
So, drop by and bring family, friends and lovers of the Holidays. To make an impact, we need a BIG RSVP and a BIG turnout. I would want 100 RSVPs (members and guests) before committing fully to it.
So, come along and we'll provide the lyrics for you. I am the worst singer in the world so you will be better than someone! The bad will be drowned out by the good -- that's what permits me to participate in group sings.
And I hope, Annie, there will be people there who, unlike you and me, might be able to carry a tune. What if we sang and no one listening could tell if it was a song or the brilliant mimic of a dying cat???
I had such a great time, it was fun! It was a great opportunity to meet some of you. I look forward to more adventures, thanks for all you do!
Annie........You better think about hiring event staff for crowd control. They're checking from Sacramento for crying out loud!!!
