NCOA Fall Harvest 1-Year Anniversary Celebration and Potluck (Bailey Cove)

This location is shown only to members

The NCOA is at it's one year mark biggrin Let's all get together for a fun social picnic and potluck to celebrate all the fun and friendships that have been developed this year with the Northern California Outdoor Adventurers.

I have picked Bailey Cove because it has a beautiful 2.5 mile EASY nature trail to walk on and enjoy the fall colors and crisp air while over looking Lake Shasta almost the entire way. There is a large grassy area with lots picnic tables for us to use.

Bailey Cove Trail...3.1 miles
Directions: Take exit #695 off of I-5 (16 miles north of Reddng). Follow the signs to the Bailey Cove day use area.

The trail begins/ends: Bailey Cove Day Use Area
Use: Fishing, sightseeing, hiking, trail running, mountain biking

This is a scenic hike along the lower McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake and provides good access for fishing and sightseeing. The trail circles a mountain peninsula and offers an interesting opportunity to see how exposure to the sun affects the ecology of the different sides. The south facing slopes are noticeably hotter and dryer and covered with manzanita and knob cone pines which are heat tolerant. The north side of the mountain is decidedly cooler and the vegetation changes to pines and oaks, thick groves of Douglas Fir and incense cedar.

What to bring: Your favorite Fall Harvest Food, Special Potluck Dish, or the Colonel Sanders Famous Bucket of Chicken. It's entirely up to you. Pack a picnic basket full of food and drinks... don't forget your utensils, cups and napkins and come join in on the NCOA Fall Celebration.

I plan on baking a pie or two and will bring a few fun toys to play with. Please invite your friends and family for this day of fun. The trail is perfect for the kids to run on and play. The more the merrier!

Had a wonderful group and the hike was full of fall color. We had a very good time, good food and fun folks to visit with. Missed Annie and Jason, hope Annie is feeling better.

Missed our fearless coordinator, Annie, but so enjoyed seeing many of our original members, ones I've done activities with during the year, as well as several new faces. We had attendees from Susanville, Oroville and Willows. This is a great location for a short-hike, a bit of geocaching and a picnic.
